House Assistants and Student Staff
House Assistants (HA's) are students who have successfully completed an extensive selection process and training program. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience that enables them to work effectively with college students. As University employees, their primary role is to work with you to make your stay in Arroyo Vista a positive living experience. The HA's accomplish this by working with residents to develop supportive and respectful communities in each house and in the community as a whole. In addition to their community roles, they are also excellent people to talk with about personal and/or academic concerns. Even if they are not able to assist you themselves, they will be able to refer you to someone so that your concerns are successfully resolved.
HA's are also responsible for policy enforcement. While this may not be the most pleasant part of their job, it is made much easier with the cooperation of the residents. HA's also assist with emergency procedures, monitor house security, report maintenance problems, mediate roommate conflicts, plan activities and programs, and serve as a liaison between the residents and the Housing Office. Get to know your HA.
If you are interested in applying to be an HA or a Resident Advisor in the future, please see any of our Residence Life staff in the Arroyo Vista Housing Office early in the fall quarter. Greek alumni, academic staff and faculty, and current students are all encouraged to become involved in the selection of future House Assistants.
