March 29, 2012 Update: Students who completed the 2012-13 Guaranteed Student Housing application will receive an Arroyo Vista or Campus Village contract offer on Monday, April 2, 2012, and will have until 4:30 p.m. on April 6th to complete their contract and pay the $350 reservation fee. |
- What are the main differences between the housing communities?
- Review the Housing Options chart here.
- How will community assignments be made?
- Housing offers to specific communities are based on space availability, varying levels of demand for different communities, student preferences, and application order. Students are NOT guaranteed placement in any particular community. Students should not assume that they will be offered their first or even their second choice.
* Typically, we received many more requests for Vista del Campo than we are able to offer. There number of spaces available in each community varies. Space is particularly limited in this process in Camino del Sol and Puerta del Sol.
* Assignment to specific Arroyo Vista houses will be based on student theme preferences and space availability. House assignments/offers will be emailed in January 2012. - Can I change the offer I receive?
- Only one guaranteed housing offer is given to each student. If you decline this offer, you can still get on a housing waitlist for another community.
- Can I apply for housing with another person?
- No. Every student applies for housing as an individual. However, if you and a friend are both offered housing in the same community, you may request to room with that person during the room/roommate assignment process. You will be more likely to be offered the same community as a friend if you both apply early and rank your community preferences in the same order.
- How are roommate assignments made?
- Roommate assignments are made separately by each housing community. Campus Village provides prospective residents with information and dates for the roommate and apartment selection process. Arroyo Vista assignments are based on information provided on the Personal Information form that is submitted with the housing contract. Factors heavily weighed are specific roommate requests (among students assigned to a specific AV House), smoker/non-smoker preferences, and sleep habits. Students contracting to live in any of the ACC communities (Vista del Campo, VDC Norte, Camino del Sol) will work with those leasing offices to assign roommates. All roommate assignments are of the same gender.
- How do I cancel my contract if I decide to live off-campus?
- Your housing contract is a legally binding agreement, and liquidated damages will be assessed should you decide to cancel. The amount of damages depends on when you cancel (check your contract for details). If you decide to cancel prior to move-in, you need to send Student Housing a dated written request to cancel (with your signature) that includes your UCI Student ID# and contract type. If you were under 18 years old at the time you signed your contract, the cancellation request must include the signatures of both the student and the parent (“guarantor”). Cancellation requests should be brought or mailed to Housing Administrative Services, G458 Student Center, Irvine, CA 92697-3250. They may also be faxed to (949) 824-4181. For more information call Student Housing at (949) 824-6811. Cancellation requests after move-in are subject to administrative review.
Contract cancellations for American Campus Communities are handled directly by those communities. Consult your community housing office. - Can I bring a car? How does parking work in on-campus communities?
- Parking on campus requires a parking permit. You can purchase a Resident parking permit for Arroyo Vista, Campus Village, or the Residence Halls from the UCI Parking & Transportation Services office. For rates and information, please visit www.parking.uci.edu.
In American Campus Communities (ACC) -- Vista del Campo, Vista del Campo Norte and Camino del Sol there is a fee for parking for undergraduate residents ($264/quarter/2012-13). Residents will go through the lease process about how to purchase a permit for your assigned community. Parking is included as a part of your rent for Puerta del Sol residents.
Parking permits for ACC Communities are valid for use in those communities only and cannot be used in campus lots. Undergraduate residents of VdC, VdC Norte and Camino del Sol are not eligible for commuter parking on the campus before 5 p.m. Evening commuter permits can be purchased from the UCI Parking and Transportation Services office.
Shuttle service runs regularly between east campus communities (Arroyo Vista and ACC Communities) and the campus core. Check the ASUCI Shuttles Web page for schedules. - What are my Off-Campus housing options?
- Students who choose to live off campus can search the Anteater Housing Network, for housing options available in the community, as well as a list of students looking for others to share a room or apartment. If you are looking for housing for fall 2012 with a group of people, you should begin your search no later than March 2012. If you do not have roommates and are looking for a room or shared bedroom, mid-summer is the best time to begin your search. More information also available at www.housing.uci.edu/och.
