The Middle Earth Housing Office provides a variety of services and information for residents. Services provided include:

Middle Earth has a student center that is filled with recreational facilities that meet a wide variety of interests. Check out the options listed below, and watch for workshops, tournaments, contests, and special events held throughout the year in Middle Earth. The Brandywine Student Center also contains the mailboxes for the Hobbiton, Misty Mountain, Isengard, The Shire, Mirkwood, and Lorien residence halls. Also, the offices for Middle Earth Student Staff and the Government of Undergraduate Student Housing are in the Brandywine Student Center. These facilities are only available for use to current Middle Earth residents. |

The BSC Media Room is a part of the Game Room that includes a big-screen TV that is available for residents to use. The Media Room is also equipped with a Nintendo Wii video game system that is only available for Middle Earth residents to use. |
Middle Earth contains large study lounges for residents to use. In addition to the study areas in each residence hall, there are two study areas in the community that are open only to Middle Earth residents.
Arkenstone is a new addition to Middle Earth. It opened in Fall 2008 and has since been expanded. Arkenstone is a 24/7 study and academic resource center. There are a number of academic support services offered here for students such as academic advising and peer tutoring in writing and library research. Also, there are computers installed there for quick use.
Bucklebury is one of our 24/7 study spaces and multipurpose space. Often times, programs for students take place here. For instance, we offer programs that promote student-faculty interactions, so it is common to see faculty here at night for different programs. |
There are laundry facilities in each of the residence halls. Laundry machines all operate off of WEB laundry cards. Each resident will be receive a WEB laundry card from Middle Earth with an initial balance. The WEB laundry cards can be recharged in the following locations:

Although meal plans are included in the residence hall housing contract, a small kitchen is located on the first floor of every hall for preparing late-night snacks or other treats. The kitchen is furnished with a stove, oven, full-size refrigerator, and microwave.
Middle Earth residents who wish to park their cars on campus must purchase a parking permit from the Parking and Transportation Office. Information about parking permits is mailed to all students in August. Permits may be purchased by telephone, mail, on-line or in person. Call Parking and Transportation at (949) 824-7486 for information about permits.
Middle Earth residents may park in Lot 17A and in the Anteater Parking Structure, depending on type of permit. All residents may park in the Anteater Parking Structure from 5:00 pm to 8:00 am on weekdays and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
All pathways in Middle Earth are fire lanes. Therefore, motorized vehicles may not be driven or parked within the community.
Bicycles are a convenient way to travel around UCI. Bike racks are located in front of most halls. Students should contact the UCI Police Department to obtain information about appropriate locations for riding bicycles, and to register their bicycle.
Middle Earth is equipped with several unique security features including:
- An automated key card entry system
- Exterior doors that are locked 24 hours a day to prevent unwanted visitors
- Emergency phones located outside each hall
- Resident Advisors who walk the entire community at night to ensure that all doors are properly locked.
- "Blue Light" poles that can be used to communicate with the UCI Police Department.
Students are reminded to take proper safety precautions in the halls and on-campus. Do not prop exterior doors open and do not allow people into your halls if you do not know them. Close and lock your door and windows when not in your room, and do not travel alone on campus at night.
Custodial and Maintenance Services
Middle Earth employs full-time custodial and maintenance staff. Custodial services are provided daily, Monday through Friday. All public areas and bathrooms are cleaned, trash is removed, and carpets are vacuumed. Residents are responsible for maintaining their own rooms. Vacuums may be checked out fromthe Middle Earth Housing Office during regular operating hours.
Maintenance staff are available 7 days a week to repair facilities and fix anything ranging from a leaky faucet to a burned- out light or a malfunctioning lock. Work Order forms are available in the Middle Earth Housing Office, and may be submitted during operating hours. Work orders may also be submitted on-line through the Online Workorder web page. An attempt is made to complete all work orders within 48 hours; emergency requests are given priority and are completed as soon as possible.
