Winter Break Housing in the Residence Halls:

Winter Break Housing

The Residence Halls are scheduled to be closed during winter break, from 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019 through 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020.  Students living in Mesa Court or Middle Earth who wish to stay on-campus during the winter break may request a Residence Hall Winter Break Contract Addendum that allows them to remain in their community from December 14 to January 4 when the halls re-open (at 10:00 a.m.) for winter quarter. There is no cost for remaining in housing during the winter break. Arroyo Vista and Campus Village remain open during the winter break.

There will be no meal service during this time, and access to community amenities may be limited. Housing Offices will be closed from December 24 through January 1, but live-on staff will be available throughout the winter break, as will campus safety officers (UCI PD).

Sign-up Process

The Residence Hall Winter Break Housing registration window is November 15 – December 2 and the form will be available on the Housing Gateway. Students who complete the registration form will receive a Residence Hall Winter Break Contract Addendum, which must be completed and returned to Housing Administrative Services by December 6, 2019.

**Please Note: If your original housing contract was signed by a Guarantor (for students who were under 18 years of age at that time), your Winter Break Housing Contract Addendum must also be signed by your guarantor.**

Staying for the break? Stay informed!

Students who complete the Residence Hall Winter Break Contract Addendum will receive more information from their housing community with important information and guidelines for your winter break stay. Communities will have a list of all students who have signed up to be here over the break. Only those students will have access to the halls during that time.

Keycard Access

Electronic keycard access will be de-activated at 12 Noon, Saturday, December 14, 2019 for all residents who have not completed the Residence Hall Winter Break Contract Addendum. Only residents who have completed the addendum will have keycard access to their hall during winter break (Dec 14 - Jan 4).

Be Safe. Be Secure.

There will be RAs on-duty throughout Winter Break to ensure safety in your housing community.

UC Irvine Police Department (UCIPD) will operate as usual during Winter Break.

If an emergency arises, call 911.

If you need assistance regarding “non-emergency” matters, call UCIPD at (949) 824-5223 or dial x45223 from a campus phone.

For any safety and security questions, please email police@uci.edu.

Nearby Dining Options

There will be no meal service in the dining commons from Dec 14 until January 4. Some retail dining facilities on-campus will be open prior to the winter recess. For information go to: https://food.uci.edu/.

There are two grocery stores within walking distance, Albertsons and Trader Joe’s, and University Town Center has a number of casual dining options. Options will be limited on Christmas and New Year’s Day, so you might want to plan ahead.

Parking & Transportation

Student who have a car on-campus should purchase their winter quarter parking permit before the campus closure on December 21st so that your vehicle has a valid permit for the entire winter break (Dec 14 - Jan 4). For information go to: https://www.parking.uci.edu/
